L'Malouma Said was born into slavery.
Now a member of Parliament in Mauritania, Mrs. Said is working to end the cycle of slavery for thousands of women and girls in the Saharan Country and beyond.
Recognized as a recipient of the 2018 Woman of Courage Award from the U.S. Department of State, Mrs. Said came to Arizona through the International Visitor Leadership Program, meeting with leaders, legislators, and even 5th graders to talk about modern slavery, and how they could help to assure the cycle ends.
Mrs. Said is just one of over 300 visitors that participate in our programs in Arizona every year. Your support assures that Arizona demonstrates its international flair and that every-day Arizonans are engaged and involved in our foreign affairs as Citizen Diplomats.
